Monster Sketches

Here's a handful of painting sketches for a series of monster portraits mostly inspired by vintage horror comic characters. I will be fleshing these out in color this week.

Great stuff Aeron, I think these are actually an improvement from the last ones. Am I wrong or did you paint them white on black (i.e. like they are now) this time? And will you paint ontop of them? Feels like a pity to loose them, but I guess that's just the usual fate of a sketch...

definitely like them black and white. there's a very nice brush stroke to them

those are all great, but the "Green Mummy" is genius as it is, leave it like that, is perfect!

Thanks guys, these are white on black paintings, 11 x 10 inches. Funny detail, some of these were shown in the Fantagraphics Store Gallery last fall as.. uh... different artworks for the Beasts Show that I painted over and made anew. The plan is to paint on top of them and yeah, I'm torn over some as I really dig how a few are looking now, the cloaked skeletal ghost thing is looking cool right now. I have 20 of these thumbtacked to a wall behind me. Everytime I turn around I get creeped out, its like they're all looking at me, screaming.. paint me, no me, no me!

And thanks alot DAVID, now I'm not going to want to paint the Mummy. Hahah. Email stuff for that Monster Brains post and I'll get it on there this week, been meaning to contact you about that!

you just make sure to walk the straight narrow path, sonny, otherwise, one of these nights you'll turn around and tackled to the wall among the others you'll discover a drawing of my face, done in your style, fresh paint still dripping from the mouth growling a warning: -Aeron! Aeeeeeeron! Leave the Green mummy be! LEAVE THE GREEN MUMMY BE!!!-
